Hi all,

As you may or may not know, as well as skulking around here with my FB, I am events manager for my other club of choice, Club323F...and I am looking to organise a track day next year :)

However, it seemed that a normal "open pit lane" track day can still be quite expensive, and there is a mix of people and cars that attend (not always a bad thing of course ;) ) and I figured if we opened the event to other clubs, numbers would increase, and costs would decrease :)

I have been in contact with Thruxton, and if enough people are interested, I can book the entire track, complete with marshals, recovery, medical cover etc - and the resulting cost per car would be about the same as a standard open pit lane day...well, the same as a half day in Thruxton\'s case...£200
The event will be late May/early June, hopefully with some good weather!

£200 might seem like a lot, but it would be a full day - 9 til 5, all day track access (although they can only let 34 cars out at any one time) and I am trying to arrange for a few other things during the day, such as a Show & Shine competition etc
There would be an entry fee for people not going out on track, something like £15, if you just fancy coming along for the day out, and to watch :)

Currently I am looking at MRC, Club323F,, various MX5 clubs, and the MPS club - basically, if it\'s a Mazda, it\'s in!

At the moment, I am gauging interest, getting a feel for numbers etc, so please let me know what you think, if you would like to attend, and any other comments ideas etc :)

1st generation RX-7's / rear spoiler...
« on: November 01, 2011, 01:19:43 PM »
Hi all,

as you may know, I am looking at bringing the FB back to life over the winter, including a lot of bodywork, and a full respray...
while looking at the rear spoiler, I noticed the mounting points were mainly made of rust, and I\'d guess this is a common problem???

I\'m looking for a replacement rear spoiler, and thought...hmmm, be nice to replace it with a fibreglass one (or similar) that I could paint the same colour as the bodywork...keep the same shape, just make it solid and paintable...

I have been in touch with a good fellow who is willing to take my spoiler and replicate it in Flexible Reinforced Plastic...but it\'s not cheap at £250 approx cost. It would be a like for like replacement, just without the fixings.
He could reduce the price a little if he was making more than one, so I thought I would ask 2 things...

Firstly, does anyone have, or know of, a decent reasonably priced replacement spoiler?

Secondly, would anyone else be interested in an FRP replacement spoiler?

1st generation RX-7's / new home for the FB :)
« on: April 13, 2011, 01:09:37 PM »
Most of you will know the problems I have been having with vandalism lately - to the point I nearly gave up ownership :2eek
Two weeks ago myself and a couple of friends took on a workshop, which is large enough to store the FB in long term - giving me somewhere to keep it and work on it :chat
This is as it was...

so we cleared it out...

garath and chris cutting the extraction pipes down to size ready for a trip to the tip...

kitchen area

some paint on the wooden partition

and then the FB found a nice spot in the corner :cool

and this is why it now needs a respray...

Still, onwards and upwards, it\'ll be safe there...I even have space for some of my cleaning stuff :Hammer

Doubt it\'ll be ready for any shows this year, but we\'ll be back looking good again next year for sure :3gears-lh

1st generation RX-7's / Front suspension removal
« on: March 21, 2011, 07:54:41 AM »
Tried to change the springs at the weekend, and fell at the first hurdle
Rears were done in a few minutes, nice and easy...
Got to the fronts, and couldn\'t undo the lock nut at the top - on most cars I\'ve done there is a flat in the top mount to stop the strut from turning, but this isn\'t the case on the FB, and even with a highly modified cranked spanner, I couldn\'t get enough purchase on the nut and hold the centre solid...
Is there a special tool for this? or am I missing something :3Confused

1st generation RX-7's / Keyed...again :(
« on: February 18, 2011, 01:46:51 PM »
I am so peed off today. The poor rex has sat there since the snow really, and today I decided it needed a well deserved run to work.

I charged the battery the other weekend and fitted took a while to start this morning, but fired up fine, and drove like a dream, I had actualy forgotten how good it was :)

I got to work, and wandered round the car, and noticed some nice kind person has keyed the rear wing - on the top face in front of the spoiler.

When fixing the headlight a month or so ago I noticed a scratch on the front wing, but wasn\'t sure if it was deliberate or not, looking at it again, it seems it was keyed before.

I guess someone doesn\'t like it parked there for too long...I mean, it is outside my house...:2Rolleyes

It\'s so depressing, I can\'t afford a full respray, and now I need to paint 2 panels that didn\'t need any work doing to them, so it looks like that may be the only option...
to be honest, I am considering selling up, I really can\'t stand to see it getting abuse like that - it needs to be locked away somewhere safe :(

1st generation RX-7's / TWR fit or not to fit...
« on: January 21, 2011, 09:54:53 AM »
Picked up some genuine TWR sideskirts last week...

I\'m still undecided on whether to keep them or not, so I thought I would offer them up to the car and take a few pics to help me decide. They are only held on by being such a good fit :D, so they aren\'t pushed right in at the arches etc...

As it was...

Left one fitted - this is the worst one, as it has suffered some damage on the bottom, nowt too bad, and easily fixable :)

Right one fitted

Hmmm, I do quite like it... :cool

1st generation RX-7's / low coolant light
« on: September 01, 2010, 12:39:15 PM »
had the light come on a while ago, it was a tad low, but not too I flushed and changed the coolant, and all was well...
went over to a friends at the weekend, and on the way back the coolant light came on...then went off...and then back on again...drove for quite a few miles with an intermittent coolant light :(
anyone suffered a similar problem? any advice as to what I should do?

1st generation RX-7's / oil metering pump
« on: July 19, 2010, 01:18:39 PM »
I may be being overly paranoid here...but is there anything I should look out for, and is there any way of knowing if it\'s working?
There does seem to be an oil leak from the pump, or around it...and the two pipes that run up to the carb look pretty clear to me, not much sign that any oil has gone through them?
there is an arm that goes down to it - I take it that\'s the actuator, should it move? not seeing much happen at all to be honest
I have only done a thousand miles or so since the service, but I haven\'t seen the oil level drop at all, thought I would have by now?
Please tell me I\'m being paranoid, I\'m not going to start the engine until I know oil is getting in there!!!

1st generation RX-7's / 12A engine - any takers?
« on: June 09, 2010, 08:40:14 AM »
Hi all,
I have a spare 12A engine, the info I have is that it was running when it was taken out of the car, but starting to lose compression on one rotor...
I was going to keep it and rebuild it, or maybe even try to make a 3 rotor unit, but I have too many projects on the go, and realistically I know it\'ll never happen :(
If anyone wants it, either as spares or for a project etc, and can collect from Sussex, let me know, and we\'ll sort it out.
I\'m not going to ask any money for it, but feel free to offer a donation to my house moving fund - whatever you see fit / can afford :)

General Technical / MagnetBra - a warning!
« on: May 23, 2010, 06:11:37 PM »
I recently bought a magnet car bra for the 323, from

looked great, and promised to protect the bonnet from any more stonechips...without damaging the paint :)

I fitted it a few weeks ago, and I took it off on Saturday, to give the car a good wash...

Unfortunately, this is what I found when I took it off :(

Nope, it\'s not a reflection, it\'s a cloudy mess. Nothing in my armoury of products improves it, so I\'d guess it\'s between the base coat and the lacquer.
Magnetbra comes with a 1 year guarantee...however, Bob Lefevre, who owns the company, or at least, represents it, is adamant that this damage was not caused by a defective bra, but was a defect in the paint from the factory
He states it is not caused by water retention, so the guarantee does not cover it.

So, now I have to take the car to a bodyshop, and as no one seems to be able to match the paint perfectly, it might need a front end respray :(

Don\'t buy or use these things, the product and the company are, in my opinion, absolutely disgraceful.

1st generation RX-7's / 13B intake onto 12A ???
« on: April 30, 2010, 05:52:15 PM »
Possibly an entrant for the silliest question of the year award, but will this fit my 12A???

It\'s a racing beat intake with a weber idf44 carb, for those that don\'t want to waste the time looking at the link ;)

Looks interesting...

1st generation RX-7's / Newbie
« on: March 07, 2010, 06:02:53 PM »
Hi all,

My name\'s Marc, and I\'m new to the world of the rotary engine, so bear with me :)

Just bought a series 3, with quite a few problems, not least of which is the rust...which I intend to deal with, with a lot of help from a good friend of mine, who is going to teach me to weld!! :)

That\'s one of my Mazda 323Fs in the background :)

Dont think you should be able to get your hand in there... :2Confused

It\'s been delocked, and the remote locking does not work, so I\'ll need to sort that, and the windows no longer work, well, the drivers one goes down an inch or so, but needs a hand back up again...

I\'ve just spied the flash to pass mod, I shall be doing that at some point in the future...need to get her welded up first though ;)
