General Technical / rb26 nur WITH 4WD SYSTEM IN AN FD SHELL?
« on: November 20, 2011, 02:03:02 AM »
How would one go about this?
the target would be 600 hp on twins with a total weight under 1300 kgs.
I have a skyline now and im thinking the fd would be awesome with the atessa 4wd system.

ill also ask in the skyline owners too.

has this been done before?

Rotary and General Chit-Chat / Best of 4 evils.
« on: February 18, 2011, 12:08:30 AM »
All,

I am thinking of getting a new toy to tinker with and tune up. (non rotary) I still have my FD

Shortlist is... for less than 12k

TVR, = CERBERA, GRIFFITH,
SKYLINE = R32 OR R34 (I DONT LIKE THE 33)
MISUBISHI EVO = 6 ONWARDS
SUPRA TWIN TURBO

I want this to be my DD as well as make 400hp when tuned up. Which of these is the most reliable at about 400hp. I assume ill get 25mpg out of all these on the MWAY at 70

I seem to be looking at alot of R34 skylines on ebay for about 8k at the mo.

General Technical / Partially frozen coolant (re tighten thu bolts)
« on: December 26, 2010, 11:18:24 AM »
Hi all,

being as we have had temps here of minus 12 and at short notice i could only get the crap halfords anti freeze my coolant has frozen. Not solid but like a slush puppy with all the juice sucked out.

I am thinking for safety when it finally thaws ill take the flywheel off and re tourque the through bolts +1 lb.

I think ill be safe as the coolant isnt totally frozen. Is it worth doing this job or will i have got away with it.

Much searching has been done on the net. I cant seem to find measurements. id like. to know dimensions of the stock e shaft. rotor bearings and main bearings.

Last night i slid a .076mm feeler gauge. between a new stat gear bearing and my 3 used e shafts. the .102 feeler gauge would not slide between. i woudl like to know if this is in tolerance or not.

workshop manual didnt help here.

can someone point me?

3rd generation RX-7's / Warning Buzzer On New Clocks
« on: October 25, 2010, 05:48:32 PM »
I have just tried to swap out my old clocks with some new ones. I have noticed that the coolant warning buzzer comes on afetr 5 seconds and does not turn back off. I had a look around couldnt see any reason why it would. I have just swapped my old clocks back in and the buzzing has stopped. Im confused. How can i stop this buzzing on the new clocks:god

General Technical / Going from a .81 hotside to a 1.30
« on: July 24, 2010, 11:06:24 PM »
I have ported my engine plates today (medium street port) using the pineapple racing templates. Im just thinking that my .81 hotiside will spool really well but get too hot and my 1.30 hotside will spool slowly but will not be efficient higher up. What hotside on a to4r would be ideal on a street port, im guessing the .96??? what do yall use.? i want good spool and 500fwhp

3rd generation RX-7's / FD 500 fwhp engine and tub build
« on: July 17, 2010, 06:30:11 PM »
Bo!

:2RolleyesI have finally started to get my stuff together and start to make way towards having a 450 to 500fwhp (ish) engine. which will happen slowly over the next few months. I will try to remember to post up regularly what i am doing and where im at but dont bank on it.

1) I have aquired and broken down 3 blocks over the past year and I have a lot of good useable parts (probably enough for 3 engines give or take a rotor and a housing)

2) I have bought the pineapple racing porting template. I am going to attempt to port the engine with hand tools and a tesco electric drill and see what numbers i get without the mirror finish to the ports. I have a good amount of carbide burrs and i am getting some hand files. If it takes a long time then so be it. Ill probably practice first on an old plate. I may also get a machine shop to get the rough shapes into the plate if i feel lazy.

3)I am going up from a .81 hotside on my HKS t04r to a 1.30 hotside (from the bentley factory)......I need to figure out if i am going to use the cut back blades from the .81 (which will slow down spool but help higher up) or if i should use the new garrett turbine blades (which are not cut back but may help the larger hotside spool up faster yet have more resistance higher up.:2Rolleyes

4) Also the larger hotside is V band and my down pipe/old turbine of 4 bolt. I intend to get a v band downpipe and cut the end off to replace the end of the current D/P. so if anyone has a knackered (or good) downpipe for sale please let me know............Interestingly the .81 hotsides centre is in the same place as the 1.30 so the downpipe should go straight on. It is also almost exactly the same depth so again the D/P should match straight up (the wastegate may not though) A few things may need butchering but we will see in the dummy set up) A few pics.

5) I have cleaned up the rotors, housings and plates using graffitti remover and in petrol. also the halfords pressure washer came in handy here.

6) Sadly broke my compressor plate on the turbo and i cant get a new one anywhere so this will have to be repaired using the housing as a Jig i will get it welded until maybe a new one turns up. Thats it for today.....

General Technical / question on exhaust/turbine limitations
« on: June 16, 2010, 01:18:52 PM »
I am going to start getting things together for my target 500fwhp motor. I intend to get a half bridge port and run pts seals.

my question regards the limitations of my turbo and exhaust gas flow t04R. with a .81/.84 hotside and a 73mm ID inch pipe all the way through.

1) will this be ok to meet the 500fwhp mark or will i have to get a turbo with a larger hotside and or a 4" exhaust?

i would like to keep my current tub as it spools well on stock ports but woudl be prepared to spend 500 quid on something more suitable.

2) can anyone point me in the direction of a free/ timing map for a half bridge. (i thought id ask here first, im sure i could get one on the PFC forum

General Technical / Re-using housings (ripples and flakes)
« on: May 22, 2010, 01:43:53 PM »
I bought a rebuild kit from ebay, included was supposed to be a good used rotor housing (receipt for 250 quid for the housing included) upon inspection of the housing i have found that

1) there is some chrome flaked off right at the bottom of the housing 1.5mm by 1cm ish

2) above the trailing spark plug hole about 4-6 inches or so the chrome has ripples (not chatter marks but accross the housing its-self can be felt when running finger accross.

what is your advice on re using this housing? abit miffed about it really
