hi all
ive just started reserching the pros and cons of fitting a rotary motor in my vw bug .ive been rcing it with vw motor for years and this is now a secondary cr due to buildign a chassis car.so id like to have some fun fitting a rotary motor .ideally id like to end up with 400rwhp tops but the reserch ive done so far has been based on rx8 motors and from the sounds of it they dont like to be messed with to much.i dont claim to know a lot about the ins and outs of any motor, but i have been racing cars for years so im aware i need to pay money for experience.so go easy on me
any dvice on what type of motor that would be a good bse to start from would be greatly rcieved. the adapter plate /flywheel kit is easy to get hold of for all motor options so im all ears
look forward to hearing your replys
danny :)

:welcome: to MRC Danny,
I'm sure you have done a google search on Rotary VW Beetle and seen it brings up loads.
Because RX-7 FD engine prices are going up and up you will maybe be better trying to find a Turbo II engine or a donor car as this will give you a route to a 400bhp motor.

Grant on here has a motor turbo ecu that was destined for a drag project ....you too should speak...
Keep us posted with the project.

RX-7 Turbo 11 years are 1988-1991 (pictured)
There was also a non Turbo version but this is easily identified by the lack of a bonnet scoop

cool look forward to hearing from you, thanks for warm welcome guys :great:
as i say im not looking for a massive power plant just some good fun. in the bug 400 rwhp should see mid 9s all day :13: but ill be happy to build the motor up to this as funds allow

Right Iv got
60mm Tial wastegate
Full bridge ported turbo 2 motor (ideal for you imo, the engine mounts come from the centre of the engine i.e. The centre plate)
Inlet manifold which has 2 x 55mm throttle bodies
Manifold has 2 x 450cc injectors and 2 x 1680cc, more than enough fuel for 400 hp
I have a twin plate clutch HKS GD pro I think.
Haltech E11v2 ecu,
Electric water pumps and bolt on manifolds etc. Plus some other stuff I can't think of right now.
Oh a borgwarner S366 turbo

What gearbox you are using? Cause best option is Finish SSF wheel built dogbox. Many US Beetle racers use it. It is the best :)
-
BTW, what happened that dude who was building +400whp Fiat 600 dragcar several years ago?
-
gearbox is a 4 speed 091 bus box with weddle gears and pro rings :)
-
Ok, good. Cause with that power, stock boxes are like handgranades :D
One dude here has done lots of testing with stock boxes. He says that it will give up somewhere around 250horses, but turbos torque will blew it up earlier...
