Title: New addition
Post by: kev-yorks on July 08, 2013, 08:42:34 PM
Here we go then our new family member after washing three years of dust from it, there\'s a little tin worm but all in all in very good condition for a UK motor. I\'ve sorted a number of minor faults and given all the brakes etc a quick pull down over the last 24hrs, so barring the aircon needing re-gassing everything is back to operational status and it\'s MOT time. Then a full mechanical shakedown prior to taking the paintwork right back over the winter and giving it a full respray to put the bodywork back into A1 condition............. I\'d forgotten what a standard engine bay looked like LOL.

Nice motor mate, gie me a ring when it ends an MOT. :)

Yep just a sedate run a round this one and no mods given how rare un-modified UK cars are getting now, it\'s going to get a case of TLC only. Plan is run this and shake down the mechanicals whilst preparing and respraying the orange one and then onto this with no time constrains.

Already booked in for tomorrow aft Steve with my local guy, emission\'s shouldn\'t be a issue but he can get that covered if they are without resorting to methanol doping.

^^ LOL

To be honest I really don\'t have space for it , I was only going to get it to save it from the scrap man

Im happy that Kev got it - it will get some TLC in his hands

I have enough to worry about with the white one of mine , never mind the JDM one on the front lawn rotting away

Kev your a hero - I knew this car would be a find !

Shame it was so far away. That\'s a lovely looking car now it\'s cleaned up. So the big question - was it really Dawn French\'s car ? (Given the number plate and all)

Frank all toys have been off the agenda for a couple of years due to a few issues, but fingers crossed I\'ll be back on the case in the coming months.
Anyone wanting to donate a battery box cover LOL, also a aircon Rad, condenser, fan and pipework.......... essentially the kit that\'s in front of the main Rad?
Dave the vehicle history I\'m going to chase up on at some point, but want to get the mechanicals all 100% first.
With that in mind I\'m after a stock looking exhaust any suggestions other than the racingbeat bad boy?  http://www.racingbeateurope.com/bracing-beat-rev-t11-complete--exhaust-system-for-1987-to-91-turbo-iib-1386-p.asp

Stock on this atm Stu but there shot, they\'d probably last another year or so with sensible use, but I\'ve never been sensible with my right foot and it\'s already seeing some serious heat cycles through it.

Post by: kev-yorks on July 11, 2013, 06:48:07 AM
The red one my last scrap salvage project went to Germany, hence this one as a second car for my wife. This one will be a long term hold though now I\'ve got on first inspection a decent UK base to work with. Plan is to put it back to fully operational and as near to stock as possible.

I won\'t be rushing Stu so no issues.
Title: New addition
Post by: grinder on July 11, 2013, 07:29:49 AM
no probs kev !

I have a gp sports front bumper to fit to mine "eventually" so I would have a better idea then

And are you sure yours has stock back boxes , they certainly don\'t look like it .. they are huge compared to mine .. and when you say they are shot .. whats wrong with them .. are they just failing apart ?
Title: New addition
Post by: kev-yorks on July 11, 2013, 07:37:13 AM
Tail pipes have been welded on Stu but the boxes look stockers heat shields and all down all the pipes. Yes just the progress of time set into them very thin now and not for this world much longer so I think it\'ll be bite the bullet time and either go with the Racing beat system or build one.

I\'ve got to admit I\'m tempted to build a system from scratch with a sports cat to improve flows a little but within stock fuelling constraints.

Stu you\'ll be a tight ass all the way to a box LOL.

I\'m contemplating as I said building my own system but that won\'t be for cost saving reasons more the satisfaction of designing and building it.......... cost wise even that option is £600-650 in parts to build it to the spec I\'d want so no major saving.

Another addition?! From now on all moderators, admin etc and forum members aren\'t allowed to buy any more rotaries unless someone gives me some of their "spare" ones. Kev has more cars to drive than fingers and toes, Steve the same, Clive has a few too. I have one, mid build, not fair :(

You don\'t need a tin hat for that statement Malc I think anyone who has swapped would concur.

Right made my decision exhaust wise, these guys http://www.mijexhaust.com/?gclid=CM6UyOTArLgCFeXItAodxw4A2g have £600 of mine for a box load of components. It\'s going to be a custom job front to back. 3inch down pipe to a mid box that\'s a single 3 inch in and two 2.5inch out back to a couple of 2.5 inch in/out back boxes. If I\'ve got it right it\'ll be a tad fruitier on low revs open up under load and flow a good bit better without the CAT.

Post by: frank20bcosmo on July 14, 2013, 09:35:37 AM
Kev,, these guys built my exhaust on the Cosmo,, I think it has a really nice tone and a lot of people think it has a V8 under the hood,, just 2 small silencers and no cats,, it howls at high revs

I think you will be impressed
Title: New addition
Post by: kev-yorks on July 14, 2013, 11:36:32 AM
Only getting the components from there Frank as they\'re top notch. The design/build will be mine I get to put my mark on the car that way.
Title: New addition
Post by: kev-yorks on July 28, 2013, 04:12:35 PM
Well that\'s one car good to go for Rotorstock a new custom exhaust on the Black FC. It\'s not a cheap option if you factor in a days labour but the satisfaction of building from scratch is hard to quantify value wise.

I\'ve managed to get the desired effect reasonably quiet yet free flowing with straight through boxes and no CAT.
System now consists of a 3inch downpipe back to the mid box which incorporates the Y section rather than a separate Y. From there it\'s a dual system 2.5inch straight through back boxes with all bends mandrel to maximise the flow.
The finished effect is slightly louder than stock on tick over, mid revs with a nice burble then a decent sound track under heavy load.
A quick clip here tickover free reving to the rev limiter http://sdrv.ms/16qa3zI

If I can get it primed and painted in time it\'ll be in the orange FC Chris but I\'ve a back up now regardless............ dry roads this morning gave me the chance to try out my handy work and it\'s certainly resulted in a noticeable increase in response and power. Giving it some around work they can hear me 1/2 a mile away or so, but its very sociable as hoped once off the loud pedal.

You\'d better get pushing Grant.  Although you won\'t be the only Mod that is without rotor at Rotorstock.  I\'ll be arriving powered by diesel which saddens me and offends my soul, it will be Japanese though.

Progress at last on the other FC though still lots to do. Flat and polish next job then wheels, mirrors and bonnet scoop to paint metallic black time permitting there\'s at least a chance it\'ll be ready now.
The first shot in bar coat, second in primer filler and finally four of the finished car.

It\'s just a stock Mipa colour Chris sort of a burnt orange in some light conditions and really bright when the suns on it, I\'m not sure about it atm so it could be all change again yet. It\'s only a interim paint job anyway until I\'ve a new garage built at home and decent conditions to spray in.
But I\'d a couple of war wounds needed fixing so the thinking was try something a little different see if I can live with it and if so it\'s just a case of taking back the lacquer to base give it a quick blow over and re lacquer.

LOL says the man who did a full shiny wrap as a interim.

Quite a bit of dust in it here and there Chris but I had a bit of damage to patch anyway so it made sense for the cost of a couple of litres of paint to give it a try as there\'s no substitute for seeing it on the car.

All work and no play for me atm, I'm about but only in the background.
The Cosmo's mothballed for now, the FC pictured is on stands for the winter but still in regular use and it's insane evil twin needs a little more work on the v mount turbo set up before moving onto the bodywork and cosmetic's.
