Post by: Ricco_04 on December 04, 2005, 11:42:45 PM
Well thought I should get some piccies up.

Its a 1995 UK Spec FD.  No mods as yet.  30,000 Miles on Mazda rebuilt engine. Received a full respray and I love it! Uber Uber fun!!

Looking great, wish I could afford to get my montego blue resprayed :)
Was it a mazda rebuild under warranty? Mine still had mazda gold warranty when I got it but at £400+ a year to keep it up I let it lapse, mine as far as I can tell had a new engine according to the paperwork.

cheers

Thsnk you for the kind comments!  :wave

Both previous owners always took it to Mazda to have any work it ever needed done.  The rebuild was completed by New Coventery Mazda.  I actually still have the itemised bill - came to about £4,800!!  :eek

Finially got round to sorting the suspension.  Went for Tein Superstreet\'s and I\'m loving them.  Had them fitted on Tuesday :

Very bad after picture!

And one to show the drop on the front - They come ready set up to just bolt on (so you can try them and adjust to your likeing)

Going to get them all laser alighned next week and will probably drop the back a few more mill.

Thats a minter mate!
Very nice.
How are the coilovers? I fancy a set..Are they the £500 ish ones?
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: Ricco_04 on August 11, 2006, 01:28:55 AM
They are Tein Superstreets.  I have to say they are spot on.  They have lowered the car by at least 35mm all round (if not slightly more) with the out of the box setup.  Could do with another 10-15mm lowered on the back.

Ride wise, they feel ever so slightly harder as the stock suspension.  I really couldn\'t tell much to be honest. Probably due to the pre-springs on the front.  Also bear in mind my stock suspension was goosed!

These are more than the £500 ones.  I am led to believe that the £500ish ones do not include pillowball mounts or springs or both.  Didnt really ask, was just glad to get some of the handling sorted! :chat   (I can check if you would like to know - unless someone else does know?)

Fitted a new bush, had new tyres and the alighnment done the other week.  Car handles soooooo much better now.  Alighnment I would like adjusting more as they would only adjust it so it\'s inside the factory tolerences but here are my results :

Due to be going for a remap soon so about to get fuelling sorted and new cat back on the way.  I also brought a ReAmemiya SMIC a while ago.  I’m too sussed about shiny shiny stuff so here’s what’s been done to the IC:

Started off with this:

Gave it good clean, rub down and already looks neater with the primer on:

A couple coats of satin black later and voila.  Think it looks a bit neater.  Hard pipes are also done too.

I now need to get some 4x3” pipes to join the hard pipe’s up.  Silicone is shiny so I guess I will have to find some rubber – trouble is where to find 3” rubber.  Anyone knows or has a suggestion for an alternative?

Finially got round to fitting it :

I was going to get some black hose to replace the blue stuff (all new clips to go on at same time)  but not sure wether red hose would look better?? :3Confused

Also toying with the idea of modifying the standard ducting to make it fit again (will also supply another feed of air to the filters & battery) or to make up an alloy plate (satin black again) to fill the same area?? :3Confused

Anyway, fuel pump will be fitted today (hopefully!) and then the plenum is off after for the fuel setup - not looking forward to that! :2Confused

that kakimoto exhaust really dosnt suit the car, plus is also cause very bad detonation in the engine.. should sell it asap bud :yes

Fuel pump went without a hitch yesterday which was nice and everything seems fine! :cool  Just waiting on a fitment for the secondary rail then I can tackle the fuel rails - oh joy! :2Rolleyes

Oh the intercooler works out as near as dam it 3x bigger than stock plus more efficient & better flow.  Well I say efficient, it needs some proper ducting so im either going to modify the existing or have a go at making my own up - I know which is going to be the easier option

Loads of good work there mate...

My Dead Red is sitting Red and Dead again following gearbox disintegration, followed by electrical gremlins to alarm system...

Saw that you had swapped the exhaust as well..guessed you were going to when we were chatting at the pub!

Cheers matey :wave Yeah, the exhause is just a bit to meaty I think, so cant wait to put the Kakimoto on when I get it - it will still be big but think it will be better overall - was too much of a ball ache to get the tip changed from a rolled one etc

Can\'t believe the lack of luck you are having with your car :( - have you manages to source another box - whats up with the wiring? :3Confused
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: khyber pass on April 09, 2007, 12:41:41 AM
Box sourced  (cheers Brett :) ) and fitted..
then looks like the alarm system has failed...leaving car immobilised. Again Brett went along and managed to suss a short cut wire to kick start the starter..unfortunately, even that has gone tits up...

At least the car lives up to its name

With so many replacement parts, and an engine that has even compression all round, there shouldn\'t be too much else to go wrong...

can then get on with sticking on the bits I\'ve been buying...(unless I need to sell them all to pay for something else going wrong:) )

See you around when dead red is up and purring again

Thanks mate! :chat

I did want to put this kit on a yellow FD, for obvious readons ;)  I have done a few photoshops for different colours and I like the mean look that red gives :cool  Plus it means that the engine bay stays the same colour as the outside - not keen when they dont match

I have already fitted the bonnet (ie me and tim - or maybe just tim :Giggle ) and the fit is damn fine.  The rest shouldnt be too bad as it\'s no copy but for sure will need a fair bit of playing around with.

I actually cant wait now :chat

Bonnet went on a few days ago and the fit it flippin spot on.  Seen a few bonnets where you can slide your fingers down the sides but the ReAmemiya bonnet is totally spot on - the only thing that lets it down is where my front bumper has sagged slightly but thats coming off soon enough anyway! (still need to fit the washer jet\'s too!)

Even took it up to Pip at WGT and had it remapped - have to shout about Pip, he managed to fit me in at the last minuite for mapping and he has given me lots of advise over the last few day\'s and has been one big help! Top bloke! :Thumbs-up :Thumbs-up :Thumbs-up :god

I have the MOT booked on Wednesday and I have got everything crossed that it\'s going to pass - just cant help being a bit nervous! :wiggle

Will look awesome.

Ive seen a few in red. and you bought the best one in the 2000 model front IMO. Front is very smooth.

There\'s going to be a lot of nice cars around soon.

Here is some red inspiration.

I love the one with White SSR Type C and red bonnet

Well thought I should update.  Booked a few days off work and have been working solid on fitting the kit with help from a talanted mate! We\'re just getting all the kit to bolt on and looking reasonable, shut lines have been tweaked ever so slightly to get the rest of it to fit but they will all be re-done again so I can be picky with them and get them all lined up as they should be.

The carbon undersweep really makes a difference and it is a good piece of aero kit.  Here\'s a few progress photo\'s :

The before work began shot :wiggle  :

Both rear arches have been seen too.  We got rid of the rust under there, wasn\'t too bad but bad enough if you know what I mean! :yes  Metal work has been moved into position, good clean up, acid primed and a couple coats of underseal have been applied.  Ready to start fitting the rear overfenders next.

Going to go out there now and get that diff brace fitted me thinks :wiggle

Rust is/was on the rear of the arches, It has had that problem since I brought it and only recently (in the last 4 months) did it all of a sudden accelerate so I was glad to have rid of it!

I will upload the pictures of the rear arches, including ones showing it all cut out (this is when I find out I didn\'t take enough! )  Even put a few spots of weld on it to make sure it was extra strong - probably could have got away with it but if it\'s worth doing and the tools are there to do it, you know.

The kit in terms of fitting is a joy - but a joy in comparison to a copy rear bumper I helped fit - that was a right royal pain in the arse and took best part of 20 hours to get spot on.  The hard work has not really been done, as always the pictures make it look better than it is.  There will be needed many more hours to get it how it needs to be.  All the shut lines need addressing and the whole car needs to be properly flatted before the respray.

I do need some help from the Widebody boy\'s though - I am a little stuck on how to relocate the filler flap (as it\'s the only lockable bit before the cap)  I have cut away the relevant metal (welded it again for strength) acid etched it and painted it but I for the life of me can\'t work how it all goes together.

The illustrations dont really give much away and I am not so good at reading Japanese! (although I would love to!)

Does anyone have any pictures of their setup?  Or advice? Or methods? Please help, I feel all held back! :Giggle

Here\'s what I have :

I actually cut the orignal one and used a spacer to push it out further.
But it still touched slightly. I had to make the hinge section very thin.
I didnt recess the body like they say.

Here is the Amemiya initial D Replica in Build form. I didnt do this but I can see why they did. It allows the cap to open more.

I got all the Initial D rep photo\'s off the Amemiya website - amazing car, love it :yes .  That\'s what I used as a starting point.  The bodywork around the fuel filler has been made the same but I still couldn\'t understand how it all works :o

Your other picture I think could help so I will have another look tomorrow also armed with a mug of tea! :D

Post by: rextreme on June 13, 2007, 01:16:33 AM
Move the mounting holes towards the exterior of the body

Carve out the hinge a bit more to make it thin and trim the original cap a little.

You have to carve it out so it opens more.

Thought I would update this with a few piccies :

Wheel arches had paint sanded off, with markings to cut with angle grinder. There are a couple of methods of how to do this, but this was done the way ReAmemiya did the InitialD replica.

Fuel filler cover/lock has had to be modified because the arches are wider.  So the OE bodywork is modified so hinge wont catch.  We also made up a custom bracket which was rivited and fiberglassed into place.  Just need to modify the locking mechanism.

Rear bumper was removed to enable the fitting of the rear overfenders and while the lights where out I modified them to 96\'+ spec lights

It was kind of handy because I already had the ovals marked out on one of the rear lights.  Don\'t understand why they are different, I know one might have been replaced but why have the ovals marked out?!?!

Genuine ReAmemiya hardpipes arrived with red silicone hose.  This is to replace the generic hardpipes and blue hose I have :

Now paintd up in satin black to match rest of engine bay, ReAmemiya logo left as a little feature :

ReAmemiya Pro electric mirrors have also been fitted :

Overall view of the car with the bonnet up :

So it\'s all taking a while but coming along non the less.  I have been toying with the idea of buying an original ReAmemiya rear diffuser as the one I have is the Rotaryart copy.  I also have my eyes on ReAmemiya Rear Wet Carbon GT wing but want to explore the options still. :mmmm

Looking very good mate.  I hven\'t even started on mine yet :(   I\'m still bricking myself with the thought of hacking up the rear arches:eek

What are you doing about side indicators??  Just noticed you havent cut them into the wings.

I had a mate help me with putting a lot of kit on.  The arch work was not so much of a bitter pill for me because of small bit of rust in there (which is now completely gone.  Go on, get in there!  Once you start you can\'t stop (I mean really! :Giggle )

Side indicator wise, I have been advised that it won\'t be a problem without them (mot wise etc) Still not sure to put them in or not   won\'t be a hard job and it\'s all there inside the wing anywho.

I was unsure becuase I thought side indicators are an MOT requirement.

Just need to build up the bottle to do it.  I might have to find a nice friend to help me!!  What did you do with regards the front wheel arch liners??  Are they useable with the kit or did you have to remove them???

Looking at yours makes me want to crack on with it now!!!!
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: Ricco_04 on July 15, 2007, 08:08:44 PM
Yeah, me too regards to the MOT.  I know a few MR2\'s and they remove their side ones and have no issues come MOT time.  These dont look out of place when fitted so may just fit them.........

The arch liners shouldn\'t really go back in as it\'s a racing kit, if you see what I mean.  However, they can be fitted back in.  I have got both of them in at the moment and there is no rubbing at all.  I must find a way of securing the outside as there no tabs on the wing for that gromet.  Hmmmmmmmm :2Confused :Giggle

Ooh the other way of doing the arches is how Ross did it for his circuit car, im sure there is a few pictures of the archwork in his thread.  Its the technique where you chop out the outer skin, cut the inner skin in sections, fold it almost 180 degrees up and weld it to the outer again :)

Wonderful Job.

You\'re doing it much more thoroughly than I did my first one.

As for rear wing. The RE-A GT Wing these days doesn\'t look Good. I have seen a few now and the resin they use goes yellow pretty quickly. Also the mounts are not very fashionable. like a big block of crap on the rear.

IMO something like the Autoexe or Mazdaspeed R-Spec or GTC wing is all you need. But If you are after a Big one then the Feed GT Wing is the best around. The supports look awesome.

The FD needs a gt wing but I dont think the RE-A one is the answer.

Just ranting Russ.

Thank you :o

Interesting about the ReAmemiya wing.  I agree, the FD is one of the few cars that can pull off the GT wing very well.  The wing in the picture is quite sexy I have to say! :cool  I can see myself putting one on in the end.  I seem to have a problem with wanting thing\'s slightly different! :King  I have been looking through the Hyper Rev\'s to see what weird and wonderfull stuff is about,  man a lot of stuff is almost bizzare!

It\'s actually quite difficult in choosing!

Don\'t even start on wheels, it\'s almost seems Ray\'s are the only option available! Which are very nice indeed but see my above problem! lol :Laugh

Try living here. My first FD was controlled by unique items at discount prices.

This time i have a plan... I am sticking to it.

Wheels depend on the look you want.

The parts you have chosen so far are actually very common in Japan. There are now many many cars with RE-A Widebody kits.

Wheels.

I had a hard time choosing, I wanted someting classy, and I didn\'t want a dished wheel, so that kind of eliminated RAYS. Rays wheels all have a deep dish.

The offset also sometimes eliminates your favourite wheel.

I love these Wedsport rims but I couldn\'t get the offset I needed.
I saw them on the Legsportwide widebody fd but the Offset was custom made for Legsport as a promotional vehicle.

Work XT7 are cool and have 7 Spokes. Cheap too.

Ricco,
Do you want a flush , deep, aggressive, sport, forged, chrome, bling or other?

Send me some ideas and I\'ll photochop them for ya.

Russ.

I can understand about the amount with the same ReAmemiya stuff, god know\'s what I would have chosen if I lived there - I don\'t think I could have, would talk me 10 years to decide!

Regards to what type of wheel im after, I would imagine about 18" as im thinking 17" may look too small, however I dont want them to look too big (does that make sence!?! :Laugh )

I would like a bit of dish but not huge, something 1.5" front 2"ish rear tops, maybe   .  I\'m not into bling, polished lip & dish (al la 57 pro\'s) I quite like but nothing more.

These are a few design\'s that I quite like. They are most possably not available in the correct size\'s & offset\'s I need. (I know the Ultralite ones are not wide enough for example and the dish in the picture is the max I would want for the rears)  The RGII\'s I like but I don\'t think they dish much at all.

Thanks for the help and advice!  I\'m always interested in opinions and suggestions, you never quite know what\'s out there! :wiggle

White car has 18s.

You need 18x9 and 18x10 +18~22 as specified by Amemiya

Original Advan RG are awesome. I have seen them on many cars, Including Blue FD and they look so cool.

http://www.yokohamatire.jp/yrc/japan/wheel/brand/advan_rg/index.html
http://www.yokohamatire.jp/yrc/japan/sitemap/yrcWBrandSizeList.jsp?WHLMK_CD=YRC&WHL_BRND_CD=ADRG

SSR Type C RS are forced center and very light in Bronze! Very nice also.
http://www.rd-tanabe.com/lineup/ssr/typec_rs/index.html
They have 19" also....
SSR 18×9.5J +22 8.62Kg all round
Or 18×10.5J +25 9.06Kg on the rear

Both SSR and ADVAN RG don\'t have 9 and 10
ADVAN RG
they have 8.5 and 9.5 But only 9.5 is GTR design.
Some people would run these all round with 255 and a rear spacer.

RGII dont dish much but the spokes are very agressive in the GTR design. You\'d be surprised how deep they look. ( GTR design )
GTR Design 18x9 +22
GTR design 18x10 +25 with small 3mm spacer
Perfect.

Ahh good info - I know it may sound silly but I didn\'t know exactly what sizes and offsets I needed, so thank you for those :Thumbs-up

My opinion that, as you say the white car has 18\'s, thats deffinately the size I would like! :mmmm

So im looking for 2 x 18"x 9" with +22 offset and 2 18"x10" with +25 offset with 2x 3mm spacers.

Happy thinking indeed :3Confused :3Confused :3Confused  :D Here we go! :chat

I have 57F-PRO on mine in 18" so don\'t get those!!

Russ\'s Advans look really nice from seeing them on the Feed cars and his photochops, I think the TS Titans would look great, surely you can get a size that\'d fit! Otherwise I think the Advan RGII another one Feed has had would look equally as good, nothing new to the mix I know, but hopefully useful anyway for another viewpoint!

Failing that al look through the Amemiya gallery on their site shows lots of rims with the AD GT kit.

Your right, going to have to have a look through those photo\'s again.  I am pretty happy with the RGII\'s but will look around for a while as I want to make sure im happy with them.  Also need to decide on the colour, will have to take a decent side shot photo and do some very dodgy photoshop moment\'s!

Well I started on the flush lights today, took my time (as usuall! ) and didnt get any near as much done as I wanted.  Took both popups out and managed to cur out the near side ready to fit the units.  I also repainted all the bare metal to stop it rusting.

Even though I only did that, at least it\'s a start and im quite pleased hwith how it looks.  Up earlyish tomorrow to try and finish the job.  I\'m booked in somewhere but im thinking I may have to delay! :spank

Just a little update.  I have now purchased a wing and hopefully it should be delivered tomorrow :)

The car had been in the bodyshop 24 days and they started it today! Oh and it was outside too!    (front and back windows removed a week before bu another company) I went to see them a few times but I refuse to start peeing them off about time for obvious reasons (I questioned why it was outside).  I have a car off them so it\'s just a case of missing her.  At least it\'s given me the chance to get the wing and have it painted as it should be!

So all thats left now is to choose some wheels and fit the carbon canards when it comes back - all being well should be another 14 days! (38 days total without  if all goes to plan! :Laugh )

CBA to read thru this all..is it gonna remain red? only lil ol me and my opinion but Id say leave it red..theres nothing worse than a red engine bay on an otherwise other coloured car!! Been there and defo wont do that again!

one2watch : Yeah it\'s going to be resprayed in Vintage Red, I think it\'s the nicest red around, not too dark and not orangey or pink! (well unless faded!!)

robbie : They say they just got behind with all the work and so on.  I have been to see her a few times not and she is really progressing well.  I took some new photo\'s so will have to upload them and post them up in a bit.

russ : yeah standard wheels for bodyshop is a deffinate, just wish I caould say I could put some RG\'s on it when it came out! ;)  The time it is taking since it has been there has not actually bothered me.  Dont get me wrong, I want her back but I know she\'s safe and in good hand\'s - plus im getting 40mpg on the rent-a-car too! :Laugh

Andy : only 10 days max to go now, hopefully! :Laugh

Dave : yeah, deffinately 18\'s and I think I have finially decided the RG\'s are the way to go.  Just have to save up a few more pennies to be able to order them so unfortunately will spend Japshow on standard wheels! :spank :Laugh

gmogle & spen : Yeah it was outside with front and back window out (bonnet off too!)  It was only there temporary, I did go back to make sure and it did go back inside.

I went in the oven in with it yesterday (man that place is nice and toasty!) and everytime it got moved it was always being pushed so happy about that too! :Thumbs-up

Laeeq : I must say Mazda yellow was extreamley tempting. (a la Keisuke)  There was even a yellow FD in the for sale section with a rebuild that I contacted the seller about, it was that close!

Thanks again all, more pictures to come when I get themm off the camera! :spank

Hopefully not long to go now  :lol   I\'m running out of photo\'s that I have on the computer - I have taken some more but not uploaded them - the car has actually now been painted! :mmmm

The work that had been done up to this point had been done in the few weeks of good sunshine that we had.  Unfortunately the summer turned on us and we had some of the worst rainfall and generally terrible weather that has been seen for quite some years.  Due to this any work on the car was slow and constantly interrupted by the threat of rain.  It was because of this that I made the decision to go down to my chosen body shop and get a quote for completing the car, which would include jobs which I was going to do myself but had just no faith that it could be done outside with the current climate.  I brought myself a gazebo to help with the problem and set about fitting the lights.

Last item to fit was the only (to my knowledge anyway) flush light\'s available - all the other ones seem to have to bulge out the top because they don’t sit far back enough.  Anyway, here\'s what\'s done:

OE headlight unit removed and area for cutting is marked out ready for the trusty dremmel!

All cut out fettled with further to get the light’s to sit better.  All bare metal was sealed up with a few coats of spare touch up paint I had:

A very rough fitting of the light covers (still have the anti scratch protection on if your wondering!)

Looking a bit naked! :

Rivets have been flushed and flexi filled and sanded:

Ta mate! :)

If afraid, as much as I would like to take work for hiding the rivits etc it has been done by the bodyshop - I was going to do all of this but it was a while back when we where having the crud weather so decided I would just book it in to get it finished.  It\'s all work I know I can do as I have done it on my FC so I kinda justify that :Laugh

I just read your post about making the wings up - sounds like another big project :guinness   I shall have to ask a mate of mine who\'s done a widebody MR what he used - he had a problem with cracking and redid it all and all is good - something about mixing materials ie the p40 & p38 will crack over time or something like that - i\'ll check (remind me bud, Im forgetfull!)

I can ask for you where they get it, and if I get the info then i\'ll ley you know!  (I still have that Y pipe assembly if your coming to Japshow BTW?)

Sorry for lack of updates :o  but I appreaciate the encouragement :Thumbs-up

I have been having a few issues with areas which have needed to be addressed.  I was told the car was finially ready to pickup on Tuesday.............the car is now back at the shop with a list for them to complete which included electrical faults and other areas. :(

I was hoping to have been at Japshow Finale this weekend in the FD but it doesn\'t look like that\'s going to happen now. I will be there anyway but unless a miricle happens I will have to be in a Frenchie car again!  Banished to the corner of Pod!! :spank

I now seem to be sporting grey hair and a nervous twitch in my right eye! :spank

It\'s annoying isin\'t it!!

I was only thinking the other day - If only I had spent 3 more weeks on the car (filling holes, general filling, panel gaps & block sanding the fiberglass)then It would have only been in for a respray - It\'s all stuff I can do myself - live and learn!

I\'m pretty sure the items where brought through Miguel at Newera, I know the bonnet was for sure (I thought I had stuck up a reply on your thread with that on cause it would have helped, sorry mate, im getting old! :evillaugh )

How very strange! but deffinately a blessing - nice! :chat   (I might just disconnect mine to see what it does! :Thumbsup! )

I put the door cards and speekers back in last night and now my drivers lock won\'t come back up!!  (it\'s catching somewhere cause it wont open on the key either!)  So I have to go in the passanger side but that wont unlock when I press the key fob because the paint shop recon that the motor\'s gone in the door   so I have to use the fob to take the alarm off and then the key to unlock it then reach over and unlock the drivers side! :flamed

My passenger door was stuck jammed,
It wouldn\'t open felt like it would break off if i pulled it.
So I went back.
But they fixed that but said it wasn\'t far from going altogether.

I didn\'t see it though.

Now it seems to be ok.

lol dont you just love it!  They always say it\'s something that has just happened to wear out naturally as the car was in their care! :Nono!

Had another poke around, and found the fuse had gone AGAIN - another one for the list.

Later that day when putting one of the windows up they suddenly stopped altogether - yep another fuse.

I don\'t know what they have done but it\'s getting fixed one way or another! Their first list of corrections was around 26 and the new one is so far about 12!  I guess 3 month\'s of it in the bodyshop just isin\'t enough time for them! :Hammer

Thanks for asking fella, I have a little progress, but not much!

The bodyshop turned me away and said next week    The car is sat outside my window as electrical gremlins from the wiring they have somehow bodged up mean that it wont start now as the immobliser is permantl\'y on!

I have taken legal advice and am persuing that avenue.  It\'s peed me off so much that I actually wrote out the for sale advert for it a few days ago ( but it\'s no fault of the car or mine!).  I would still need it fixing and when that\'s done I would want to keep it!  I have paid a lot of money for the work and basically been made a fool from it all!

Ahhhhhh this is the life!

Urm yeah kinda, bit of a weird one to be honest.  Had the problem with starting it from hot (ever since it came back from the bodyshop - go figure :2Rolleyes )  Of course it could be anything even like TPS but anyhow.

I was worried that it was low compression so booked it in for the test.  Front rotor (5.5 / 5.5 / 5.55) was a bar less than the rear  :xconfused.  After plugging in the datalogit because of this bar difference it thinks I am gently stepping on the throttle on and off causing the rough idle.   I say its strange as the car has never had a stable idle so bear in mind I have had the thing nearly 4 years but only now is it sometimes hard to start from hot!

Looks like im going to have to spend the wheel money towards the engine now! :(

And I picked up my plates and new housings for the FC that day too! :spank

Thank you guys, very nice of you.

Agree readings are just crazy although I had a compression test done nearly 3 years ago so im going to dig those figures out and see what they say - im actually expecting them to be around the same differences, would explain a lot.

Kind of worried me to say the least but for the first time today when going to work I had the \'Add Coolant\' buzzer and light come on.  Quickly glanced at my commander which said 81 deg for water.  Pulled over and light went out and buzzer stopped :3Confused .  Had a check as best as I could and there was no leak or steam etc.  Carried on to work (just another 2 mins down the road) and water temp was fine.

Had a good check of oil and waters when it came to go home and everything was spot on! So made the trip home......BUT! along the way the buzzer and light came on again.  Temp once again mirrored earlier at 81 and after 30 seconds again the buzzer whent out.

Confused by that one.  Checked car after cool down and still all the levels are perfect :2Confused

is the water level in the over flow changing?
also when the buzzer goes off is it much differant?

i had a similar problem with a very slight nick in the pipe from the filler neck and the ast, mine only ever used water from the over flow tank??????

i fixed the pipe and never had another problem.

When it\'s warm after drive ... Not Hot and Not cold

Wait 1-2 hours

Check the filler neck. Mine was low after new rad install. No buzzer for me but, definately was air in there.

Topped it up. All good.

Post by: Ricco_04 on December 12, 2007, 04:40:53 PM
Ok cheers guys :D

I have checked the overflow bottle (although only when cold) and that reads full.

I will go out in a bit and check the level in the center one to see where it is (car will have been stood just over an hour by then so that will be good for my hot-ish reading.  I\'ll also check the overflow again at this point for a comparison.

I still didn\'t dig out the old compression readings though :o

Lil update, got myself a nice pallet weight :

So all being well thats the engine sorted.  New turbos needed as the oil seals had started to give way.  Get this changed over then off to Pips to have the map adjusted. :yes

Just also wonderr (and I think it may be a yes) but will I have to swap the engine looms over as mine is currently all UK spec???

Hopefully will swap over my current primary injectors (850\'s) and I shall hopefully have an Efini Y pipe & crossover soonish.  I want also to change the clutch, there is no problems with it but it\'s still a standard jobbie so I really need one that can cope with the extra torque.

After that I can start to save for the wheels again! :Laugh  I could really do with some 2nd\'s to tide me through :yes

Hi Karl,

I brought it from Oscar on these ere forums.  Engine was rebuilt 2000 miles ago and the turbos have low mileage too so it ticked all the boxes for me.  It was either that or rebuild myself and get another turbo pack.  I need this car so it should be less time off road this way ;)

The car is very much driveable as it still starts and its the oil seal on the 2nd tubbie thats going so you still get plenty of revs to drive round with.  Im driving it like miss dazy at the moment till its all sorted :)

I have 1 or 2 other bits I want to install at the same time, such as an uprated clutch (still to decide and buy) so wont be starting the job untill I have all the parts in my garage.  I\'m hoping it will be a smooth opperation :Laugh :Laugh
Title: Ricco\'s Ride

sounds good, you will also have your current block to play around with as well when the new one is in :D

did you find the cause for the coolant buzzer coming on?
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: Ricco_04 on February 17, 2008, 04:37:41 PM
Yeah thats true, a spare one just in case  :Laugh   I even thought about mixing it with the rebuild for the FC and then have a sort of hybrid in the FC :Laugh

To be honest I didn\'t.  I tried all the advise but it seems to do what it wants.  The last thing I did was to try and bleed any air out of the system.  I did this twice and had no problems for about 2 weeks.  Then the buzzer came on again.

It\'s completly unrelated to the coolant at this stage.  The temps on the commander rise as normal.  All water levels remain fine and at the exact level as when previously checked.  I was also advised to check the wite because it may be frayed and occasionaly causing the light & buzzer to come on but thats fine too.

Very strange but the only thing I can think of is that there was air in the system and somehow more has got in and caused the buzzer to come on again.  At least it\'s all going to be replaced :)

Chrikey, been a while since I posted on this!

Due to many reasons, the car is now back in the same bodyshop to have the necessary work done that wasn\'t done right in the first place (someone, not me, trying to make a quick buck!)

Anyway cut a long story short they have been slowly putting right all the faults and doing the work that they where paid to do in the first place.  I went to see it today and it put a smile on my face to see the work that had been done thus far.  I took a couple of photos and will upload & post them when I take them off my phone :)

On the way back £16 in the Clio and it says I have 200 mile range - Its gonna be weird having the FD back :Giggle

Looking good Ricco... Can\'t wait to see it finished (same for you I guess!!).

Looking forward to seeing it in the metal as well :) Are you still going for the SSRs?

Howdie dude, yeah, think I need it back now :giggle

At present moment I now decided RGII GT-R is better overall :InLoven  (wonders how long before changes mind again :o)

Whats the countdown to on your car now?  You counting in weeks or days? :Thumbs-up

Post by: Macer on June 24, 2008, 01:58:58 PM
I\'m counting it in months unfortunately!! It should be around the end of August... Having the new seats fitted meant a bit of a delay, and the shipping date has just been put back another week - still, it gives me time to save some money!!

Advan RGII\'s would look the business, especially with the nice GT-R taper. I have crazy plans in the back of my mind to buy some of those as a second set (It\'ll probably never materialise though!).

I still like the SSR\'s though. Either would suit your car really well... So many choices eh!

Im sure time will tell.  I was looking for a house over the last year.  Given up now as the market is still unstable.  Maybe start looking again in another 6 months depending on how the economy / credit crunch is doing.

Anywah, decided to take the plunge and order my wheels last night! (finially!) :)  Tried to pay several times and it wouldnt work :spank in the end decided to bank transfer and still it wouldnt let me do that either!  Happy days! :Giggle

Went for the RGII\'s in the end (GT-R Design)  I figured I liked them better as there was a bit more design to them :)  Cant wait now :D

Its a race to see what I get first - wheels which have to be made & shipped several times & go through customs

or

FD back from bodyshop with 2 jobs left on it! :rollin

Im betting on the wheels! :D  (Better go work on the FC then, think I could get it done in 3 weeks! :spank)

What colour have you gone for? Shame they don\'t do the bigger sizes in bronze...

Post by: Ricco_04 on June 29, 2008, 10:24:03 PM
Yeah I was very tempted with bronze but as you say only in the smaller sizes.  I went for the silver ones in the end :wiggle

Still waiting for a chip reader from the bank so I can pay!  I hope Newera carry on with the order anyway! :Giggle

Only got the car back today!  There are still several issues which need sorting but nothing you can see.

Took it from the bodyshop and right to the MOT.  Emissions I was pleased about.  Full decat and only failed on Lambda! :WaveBye (0.97 to 1.60 was the target and mine was 1.72)

Looking forward to my wheels being delivered - hopefully on Friday from Newera :mmmm

Tomorrow I have to crack on and get the engine and turbos changed & swap over the primary rails & injectors (850\'s). Hopefully it will go without too much fuss! :Giggle

It started raining just as I was about to start work - fingers crossed it will be dry tomorrow.  I have a gazebo I could use but I only just put it away! :flamed

Good news about the MOT as well... Bet you can\'t wait for those wheels, but sounds like you\'ve got plenty to keep you busy in the meantime :D

Look forward to seeing this beast soon - but get some pics up when the wheels arrive :yes

Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: Ricco_04 on August 03, 2008, 12:06:25 AM
Hugh, been tough but im getting there - im racing to be reasy for Rotorstock - fingers crossed but will be close!

MOT failed on 3 things, emissions, headlight alighnment & orange sidelights.

Ok emissions no problem, cat back on for that, gonna rig up a double bulb (a la standard setup ) fore the sides/indicators & headlights will be done on retest.

So anyway, I also have the engine to change & turbos.  So old engine was taken out yesterday and transfered over the powersteering & aircon pump.

Today I took the injectors out of the old engine and put them in the new one - 850cc primarys in machined rail & stainless steel hose with aeroquip fittings.

Few other odd jobs done, like put a new oil level sensor on, few clips & hoses.  Managed to get the engine sitting properly back in the subframe.  Tried for a time to get the gearbox & engine to mate up - almost there, just dowel pins not going into bell housing.

So thats where I will continue tomorrow after blagging a lift to buy some oils, water & coolant and anything else I can think I need in the meantime!

I also phoned around for tyres and thats almost sorted - waiting for a call back on Monday & confirm that order.

Bed time! :yes

Cheers fella :cheers  I have a load of pictures still on the camera so will get them posted up soonish :)

Engine is back in the car with all the wiring done.  It\'s raining now so I cant get at it :2Confused

Brought new oil, coolant, powersteering fluid & brake fluid - that needs to go in.  Also to go in are ; intercooler and pipes in, battery and box, filters and pipes, OE cat, and transfer the belts over from the old engine.  Oh I also need to put the steering rack section back in but its being an arse - it will go in about 1cm but no further so I cant get the bolt in! :Grrr

Havn\'t done the sidelights yet and I need to make a pipe for the cat as it went when I had the mid section put in.

So still quite a bit to do but the back is well and truly broken! :bandit

I have a high flow Cat with all the FD plumbing on it. Made by Metalic, well thats the name on it anyway.  Its not got much in the way of a silencer just the cat portion which is maybe 4.5cm Diameter and about 8" long, then the 3" tubing to and from. Gonna bring it to RS5.

Post by: Ricco_04 on August 05, 2008, 10:49:57 PM
Cool, I will have a look at it at Rotorstock. :bandit  (Think I was on about this in another thread maybe?)

Right, just got sidelights to make up, and a few small things like strub brace, crossover etc.  Tyres arriving Thursday (yay!) Got a nice discount too! :King  Then it can go off for the partial MOT test as long as she runs tomorrow!  Being held up by this loom plug problem now if anyone has any ideas?

Idle is quite high so best turn that down about 900Rpm! (powersteering & aircon not connected yet as im waiting for a new pulley so I guess that wont help??

Just also to check that this is for the idle adjustment? :

Post by: pdtaylor18 on August 06, 2008, 01:25:44 PM
Well done Matey, Take it she lives and breathes fire !!  Just get the thing ready
for RS5 !!
Idle is high especially if you have got to turn it down to 900rpm.  With the aircon and powersteering not connected that that for sure will make it spin faster unless you have a Apexi or something to control it all.  Put the internal fans on as this drops the rpm before you adjust.
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: Ricco_04 on August 06, 2008, 01:37:44 PM
Cool, cheers, Pete.  I wonder how much those 2 pulleys would drain off the RPM - will find out when I get to refit them - Means no powersteering yet, mini workout :Laugh

Have adjusted the idle down a bit, checked throttle cables are also not pulling but they are fine.

checked water and oil and topped up accordingly.  Also burpet cooling system and got some more in to.

Going to call the MOT place now and book the partial test :)

Thanks guys. :Thumbs-up

Right, finished putting all the car together and now have some teething problems.

1, Very strange problem that I will have to phone a specialist about and hope he not only wants to help but can :Giggle (sure he will :))

2, Idle still high, so need to adjust further.

3, 2 wires wrong on indicator/sidelights so need to re-solder those etc

4, Radiator not getting hot so I havnt ran car fully up to temp yet.  so this is either a fubared water pump or thermostat.  Never checked thermostat before and wouldnt have a clue where to begin if it was the pump.  Pretty sure its not pump though :)

So if I can sort thous out in time I have retest mot at 11.30am  :2Confused:2Confused  Alarm set early to begin work then :( Grrrrr :Laugh
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: karl_tate on August 07, 2008, 09:37:26 AM
to test a thermostat just put it in boiling water and see if it opens :D

hope your out there getting it all sorted.

whats the strange problem??
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: Ricco_04 on August 07, 2008, 01:45:48 PM
Phew, what a day.

Long story short all above issues are sorted and I now have an MOT! :wiggle :yes

Would just like to say thanks to Andy (aka Chopper) for helping me out over the phone for my idle issue (and keeping me that little bit calmer! :Giggle)  Also thanks for you guys for the help and keeping me going :Thumbs-up

So I can relax for the rest of the day - I am seriously doing nothing more except to go meet a friend for a drink later :cheers

I do have issues left such as put scilenced center back on but the only other one is that I am getting a large amount of localised boiling around the turbos.  I have purpousley given the car no stick (0.12 peak boost on commander) and water levels are fine so just worried about that now.

Rad gets hot, thermostat is good and fans cut in just right so am a little confused! :3Confused

Almost done! :yes
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: logicalChimp on August 07, 2008, 02:34:47 PM
Hmm - time for some armchair speculation?

Are you using water-cooled turbos?  (if not, the following is probably completely irrelevant :D)

locallised boiling would imply either insufficient pressure or insufficient flow, right? (and theyre sorta related)

The radiator getting hot etc shows you do have some flow, but if you have a restriction somewhere it might be slowing it down enough for the turbos to start cooking...

Alternatively, where are the turbos plumbed in - if they are being fed water straight from the engine block, then it may already be close to boiling.

On a different scale, i\'ve seen/read about similar probs with water cooling in PCs - when the water cooler is used for both CPU and top-end graphics, one or the other gets fed hot water, and doesn\'t get sufficient cooling - the usual fix is to add an extra radiator between the two hot parts, or to use a split loop system

perhaps if you split the water pipe in two after the pump - one to feed the engine, the other to feed the turbo - recombine the two flows just before the radiator?  might be tricky to ensure appropriate flow levels (e.g. might need 2:1 split between engine and turbo, or something)

p.s. Congrats on getting the car ready - just don\'t touch it between now and saturday :D
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: Ricco_04 on August 08, 2008, 12:22:14 AM
lol thanks mate - best not to touch it, agreed! :D

Armchair speculation is good, more brains together the better! :cool

Makes sence what you are saying, agreed.  Confuses me though as  I am running the exact same setup as before and I didnt have these issues then!
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: logicalChimp on August 08, 2008, 09:30:59 AM
hmmm - that would imply then that there is a flow restriction of some sort - you may be getting enough hot water to the rad to keep it hot, but maybe not flowing enough to get the heat away from the turbos in time...

I take it you have checked for kinked / twisted pipes etc?
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: Ricco_04 on August 08, 2008, 10:59:33 AM
Agreed :)

I have checked and couldnt find any.  Will double check in a bit to make sure.  I have also to jack the car up again anyway so I will get underneath for a different angle too!

Fingers crossed I missed one :)

Yup - car looked very nice indeed...  \'especially with those retro-style wing mirrors (which were truly on the wings! :D)

one question tho - how do you find those mirrors, in comparison to standard FD mirrors?  do they have the same field of view, etc?  do you have to squint to see stuff (esp. bikers etc) in them?

Thanks guys, appreaciate the comments  :cheers

Engine bay shot, you telling me the one with nothing in is no good? :Laugh  Good point, I just been through my photo\'s and cant find any!  I will put some up.  I have tried to tone the bay down and almost like a stock but uprated feel.  There where a few things which could have been polished or powdercoated but they are satin black now :)

Carbon undersweep is ReAmemiya, brought through Newera :)  I also have the canards which I desperately  wanted to fit before Rotorstock but can\'t for the moment :)

Thanks Russ :)  I should be seeing yours/macers in the flesh soon, looking forward to seeing that :cool

Yeah the mirrors are actually not too bad, can see quite well and they are electric too :) (but I would be kidding to say they where as good as the stock ones as they are smaller)  Dont have to squint as I have a perscription windscreen :rollin

It\'s a well poor photo but played on the way to Rotorstock, not so bad view :chat

Your car looks fabulous and its a look that is different and so tastefully done.  You must have worked your backside off to get that all done in time for RS, well done though because out of all the FD\'s yours got my attention, think the mirrors made me have a closer look.

Finially go to Pip\'s on Friday!  Always have a good trip, traffic for ages going at 15mph, that cleared for 5 miles and then came to a stop as there had been an accident further up!  2 and half hours to cover 70 miles :Laugh

Anyway, got on the dyno and started troubleshooting on the turbos.  There was 2 clips missing when I went to install the engine which I put on but Pip found another 1 which I missed so replaced that.  He also found there to be a missing boost pill so he got that sorted for me and on with the mapping which went well.  I decided to map for 95 fuel as close to 0.85bar as possable on a nice safe map so expected a drop in performance but it was nice to see a slight gain (2.1 bhp woo! :Laugh) with a fuel which is 4 Octane points lower - can always put in VPower as a safety for track/drag.

So im happy now that the car is performing now and I can play at proper boost levels with 2nd tubbie action (which I have really missed, big grins! :D)

Got some tidying up work to do on the car like proper location for the numberplate, tax holder, arch liners.  Also to still fit the diff brace and canards. Would like to sort some better I/C ducting out, maybe make some fiberglass ducting which will take loads of time but should be well worth it.

1st job to do next is the brakes,  need to have front calipers off so will rebuild them, renew fluids & bleed.  Hopefully that will sort my brake issues :)
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: karl_tate on August 31, 2008, 12:36:37 AM
nice one dude, although i would of been really ****ed of with the traffic, i hate it :Grrr

did you get a compression test done or is it a strong engine??

will look nice with the cannard :D have you thought about a diffuser for the back??

will make a great difference with better IC ducting and some proper air filter feeds :mmmm
Title: Ricco\'s Ride
Post by: Ricco_04 on August 31, 2008, 08:20:06 PM
Thanks Karl :)

Did not compression test it in the finish, we where running out of time but Pip did say that it felt good and was giving good results on the dyno so im happy about that.  Was also going to get the alighnment sorted but Pip took it for a drive and was quite pleased with the handling so left it as that :)

I have a diffuser for the car but have always been in two minds to put it on or not, I want something for the back but I want something that has good lines to go with the car and not have gaps etc (hope that makes sence!)

looks good now you finally have everything sorted.

Diffuser On or Off. They are a bit of a pain in the arse.

If it\'s the RE-A Pro one, Make sure you add more support to the front of it or it will pull down and scrape on the road at speed.

A friend went through 3 of them before removing the last one and changing the bumper.

Thanks again :)

I keep thinking about diffusers.  I actually have a ReA one in the garage, but I think I prefer the MK1 ones (think it\'s MK1) - the type that look like this :

Saw your car and was dribbling over it at rotorstock last year.
Like the recent pictures, looks really good mate. :Thumbs-up

There\'s going to be a few of these kitted cars around next year me thinks :D

Lil update.....

Broke a speaker ages ago and finially got round to putting the new ones in.  Put drivers side in , tested it, all good.  Passangers in, tested it, good but now drivers dont work! :3Confused Ahhhhhh!

While I was at it I also fitted the Dragon diff brace I have had for over a year and a half.

Also got rid of that nasty phone holder and put on the new RMagic Commander holder - Cheers Andy! :guinness

Thanks again :)

I keep thinking about diffusers.  I actually have a ReA one in the garage, but I think I prefer the MK1 ones (think it\'s MK1) - the type that look like this :

Im happy with it for the moment and still have 1 or 2 things to fit to it which I STILL havn\'t got round to doing yet! :o

Nice this diffuser...
With the original exaust and rear bumper it could be put or it need some modify?

I think it should be ok with a standard cat back exhaust and bumper with out any modification.  Would be best to enquire with ReAmemiya first though before spending your money! :)

Standard exhaust will be fine with this diffuser, to fit it to a standard bumper you just need to remove the black plastic part that sits where this diffuser goes, its an easy job to remove. Took me about 2 hours to fit this diffuser to my FD and i\'ve got a standard bumper
