RX-7 1st Gen Technical / interior vinyl replacement

Has anyone ever used or bough vinyl thats a good match for an s3 interior, the dark charcol grey thats on the door cards?  I'm on the lookout to replace the tip part of the card...

1st generation RX-7's / indicators not working

Hi,

After being laid up this winter I took the car a spin and its indicators werent working,  not the stalk or the hazards... nothing :(

So is the likely culprit the relay box under the steering wheel?

I know its not an rx7, or even a car! But thought I\'d put it up here for anyone lucky enough to have a bike and rx ;)

BMW K1200R,  11600 miles. A tone of extras, most are in the pic, also full BMW luggage and a large top box too.

Advertised at £5400 ono but happy to negotiate for mrc members...

1st generation RX-7's / racing beat exhaust

Quick question,  I have a contact in the states whos happy to bring over a racing beat exhaust, saving me on all other costs :)

Will the us spec racing beat exhausts fit a uk FB? And does anyone have any videos showing how loud they are? I dont want anything ridiculous.

1st generation RX-7's / 1st basic FB upgrades

Hi guys

So its mot time soon and the car definitely has a blown exhaust, so its a good opportunity to change the exhaust and make a couple of changes as the car is bone stock and ive heard a few changes make all the difference to the cars drivability.

So I was looking to pick up some aftermarket headers( release a bit of power) and get a custom mid section made as its this section that needs replacing. I want the car to retain as much of a stock sound as possible. How likely is this?

 Ive also seen on the internets that custom made headers aren\'t as good as the aftermarket off the shelf headers that you can pick up. Any truth in this?

I\'m also looking to changing the viscous fan for an electric fan, as it sounds like its sapping alot of power for the wee rotary unit !

So is there any basic upgrades ive missed, ideally I want to retain as stock a look as possible just now.

1st generation RX-7's / DO\'H flooded FB

Hi guys

Just went to move my FB however I think its flooded, I made the rookie error of moving it up the drive and shutting it down!

I Know the deflood procedure for cars with the EGI cut off but this being carb\'d it wont have it.. I assume its spark plugs out, crank( no throttle), clear the floded fuel leave for an hour to let fuel evaporate, some oil in(5ml or so), crank( no throttle), clean and heat the plugs, pop them in and start as normal with choke or no choke and at no other time touch the throttle??

1st generation RX-7's / Hello from a new 1st gen owner

A big hello to everyone!!!

So I thought it time I introduced myself in the 1st gen forum since im just back from london after buying Keith\'s 1985 series 3 :)

My names Richard and im a rex-a-holic, though not as bad as some of the more regulars on here I would imagine :)

So far ive owned a 3rd gen,  2nd gen and now I\'ve completed the trilogy, I like to think possibly in the minority of owners having owned all 3 at some point ( sadly not all at the same time)

My 3rd gen was almost 10 years ago now!! I was young and bought with my heart, not my head and it nearly bankrupted me, as it also had waterseal failure :( ( sadly a member on here sold it as fully working, so a hard lesson learnt) I rebuilt it and tuned it, but it kept spitting the dummy, and on the 3rd rebuild it was sold!! I loved the car but couldnt afford to keep it! Time to move on :(

So 2008 comes along and so does the boredom of my bmw, it was all the car I needed, brilliant, but just another bmw and sooo bland and boring! So I started the hunt and my t2 cab came up. A flight to london and trip out to kent and I owned a great car. I kept the car for 3 great years, it became part of the family... so it was fitting when I proposed to my wife that the car was with us too :) but the car was a daily driver and I couldnt afford 14mpg and a wedding. Sadly the car went to a new home and happily to a new loving owner on this forum. This was the best car ive owned,  it was outdone in outright performance by the 3rd gen, but the retro looks, character and reliability all made it much better than a 3rd gen, Imho of course ;)

So 3 weeks ago 6/4/13 I got myself a wife, and off to Malaysia on honeymoon we went, clearly as rex-o-holic I kept searching to see what was out there and finally I saw my new 1st gen and its reduced price. Being 7 hours ahead I had a long wait untill it was 9am and a more acceptable time to call Keith. I was certain someone else would calk before be but luckily I was first and it was arranged,  after travelling 23 hours from Malaysia to london and back to Glasgow on Thursdays, we were going back to London for my rx7 obsession on sunday :)

My wife was almost as excited as me, infact at 5am as the alarm wentb off she was much more excited about the trip :)

So the rest is history,  Keith is a great guy, he loved the car since 1992, and was sad to see it go. But I think I\'ve shown him I was an enthusiast and he was happy to let the rex go.

So 400 miles north, the rx performed perfectly... hopfully I can keep it for the next 20 years in as good a condition as it is now :)

So thats my brief intro and hello :p hope I havent bored you all!!! Heres some photos, sorry the first gen photos arnt great, weve not had much time together yet...

Rotary and General Chit-Chat / Rx7 \'engine unreliability\'

Hi

I\'ve been a massive fan of the rx7 for years, loving the way they look and the engine in them every bit as much for its uniqueness, noise and power, and I always found myself wanting to defend them and it\'s engine if any person would mention that the engine was \'unreliable\'.

However after my own experiance of the 3rd gen and many years on the forum often find that new owners to the marque, and often the \'better\' condition cars from Japan go pop after a new owner purchases them( confirmed by importers leaving the rx7 alone now and refusing to sell them)

Do people on this forum think that the Japanese cars are rebuilt badly, sold at the \'right time\' by the previous owners or do they not like the month on the boat being imported.

Or am I being harsh on these imported cars? Are the cars in the uk going Pop as often?

Are there many owners who give their car a thrashing often and have no issues with them? Or if youve rebuilt your engine and its been running for a few years has it been wrapped up in cotton wool?

I don\'t have an rx7 at present, however in a year or so I\'m hoping to get another, a late spec standard car, thinking that it will last as its standard and will be wrapped up in a garage... But after having a think I\'m not sure that even if looked after well the engine can last.

So what\'s your thought on the above and who\'s been running their rx7 for high miles whilst enjoying its performance on the road/track...

I realise my theres about 12 questions there, but it\'s a Monday and there\'s nothing better to do :p

Anything Engine/Performance/Tuning related / Hurley\'s rx-777

Hi

I\'ve been doing some poking around various sites and come across Hurley\'s rx-777 engine, which has caught my attention.... Now I understand for the power gain vs money it\'s not going to ever be a popular engine choice, but I can\'t seem to find any info on it Anywwhere else, or even one person who has ever went for the engine....


Does anyone here have any idependant ( of hurleys) experiance or links???  I don\'t have an rx just now :( just looking for future projects/ideas :)

I think the title says it all... I need a couple of bits asap, and as far as I know there vert specific!! It\'s the clutch slave and master cylinder, I\'m pretty sure the bores have worn. After speaking to specialists I\'ve been told te vert\'s are different. I\'ve previously had Mazda confirm there different part numbers too....

My daily drivers off the road mean time

2nd generation RX-7's / What to do, what to do.....

So I\'ve had my FC vert for 2 and a half years now and it\'s decision time, since owning my previous FD I\'ve always wanted another and I\'m in a position to get one again... However I love my FC!!

So I\'m after some opinions... Should I keep the FC and spend ££££ on wheels and suspension, maybe up the power to 250-280bhp ( tho I\'m scared of blowing the engine)... It\'s my daily so subtle mods that won\'t make it unbearable! Or extremely loud :s

And I\'ve saved alot of cash and will have a low FC, that looks great and fingers crossed will be a great handling car that\'s different to 99.9% of eurobox\'s out there


Or should I go for an FD, keep it stock and as clean as possible :) and have a very capable car out of the box, and pass the FC on fir a good price( since rx7\'s ain\'t selling!!)

Either way the car will be my daily driver, With the odd blast camping in the highlands :) so it does need to be reliable!!

2nd generation RX-7's / Wanted: New convertible roof

Hi

Ok so I\'ve lived on a main street for over a year now, and until today never had any issues with my car being parked there, but I went out to my car this morning to find a 12 inch slash down the rear of the roof, and I am totally devastated and F@#%ing raging!! Excuses the French!

Does anyone have a roof, or know of anyone selling a roof?? It\'s just the rear section ( fabric ) I need .

2nd generation RX-7's / Tyre choice?

Hey,

It\'s time to bite the bullet and get a fresh set of tyre for my t2 vert, it\'s all stock at the moment, and will stay mostly that way in the future too. But I\'m after some thoughts on tyre choice, I believe the mazda recommended size is 205/60/15? Does anyone run other tyre sizes on the stock bbs wheels?

Also what\'s peoples thoughts on the better tyres to go for? There seems some toyos, yokohamma and continental about my price range of £60 a corner, but I think I\'m tempted to go for the rainmasters... I am in Scotland so wet weather performance is still importand even in summer :)
