Wanted Items / FC Turbo heat shield
« on: November 28, 2017, 11:55:41 PM »
Perhaps a bit of a long shot but does anyone happen to have a turbo heat shield for an FC Turbo II? (S5 if it makes a difference)

I threw mine out as it was pretty rusty but I'd like to put some sort of heat protection back in now

Cheers!

Right so my generic spring which I bought wasn't quite the right size and ultimately didn't work..

However, someone on another forum had a brainwave and linked me this https://www.mx5parts.co.uk/door-lock-release-spring-mk1-p-1891.html

Turned up today and it looks as though the MX-5 uses the exact same spring :)

So handy thing to remember for anyone who may have this issue in future

Well I found the spring, but unfortunately one of the hook ends has snapped off it

What are the chances of me finding another?.. Think I may have to adapt a generic one and hope the tension is close enough to work

Ah thats perfect! That definitely explains the issue I'm having, thank you very much :D

I just hope I can find that spring now and its still in a usable condition...

Made some progress on it today, managed to get the door card off with the door still shut and got my hand in to manipulate the mechanism so the door does now open

The odd thing is, if you pull up on the handle with the door locked, then go to unlock the car, the key won't turn all the way and the door won't open again, so I have to reach in and move the bit in this pic with the red arrow

After which I can then turn the key, unlock and open the door. So needs a bit more investigation, I think ultimately I'll probably have to pull the mech out and have a proper look at it on the bench, see if anything is bent or broken

I don't know with absolute certainly about the availability of floor panels, but I know when I had the sills done on my vert recently, they had to fabricate the panels as replacements weren't available off the shelf so I'd say its likely the same issue with floor panels

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with a recent issue with my FC convertible..

Went to unlock it after work one day a week or so ago and while the lock turned, the drivers door won't open. The passenger side unlocked fine but it feels as though the drivers lock won't turn enough to disengage the lock.

I've taken the door speaker out and am able to get my hand in and manipulate the rod that goes from the interior lock/unlock switch to the lock mechanism. I can pull it locked, but when pushing it to unlock it feels as though theres some resistance, the switch won't stay up in the fully unlocked position

Has anyone else had a similar issue to this and can offer any advice? Ideally I'd get the door card off but it doesn't look as though its going to be particularly easy/possible with the door closed

Cheers :)

Yes that's OK for either the TII or the EGI, its the master cylinders that are different

I don't believe thats correct? I fell foul of the Turbo/NA Slave cylinder differences when I changed them on my Turbo last year

Had to take that one back and get another one!

Cheers for the replies guys, I've got a little list of places to try so I shall add them as well thanks!

I've been edging towards a cloth roof and I think I will go that way as they do seem to be harder wearing with the proper care taken.

I've just got to get it back on the road then I can get it sorted! haha

Its not top of my pressing issues list at the moment but I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get the top replaced on my Vert this year as its got the typical tears near the drains

Are there any convertible owners on here that can recommend a place to get this done? I'm midlands based so nearer the better please

Also can anyone comment on whether its worth going for a cloth hood over a standard vinyl replacement?

Cheers :)

My car doesn't have front fogs, but I would have thought the bulbs are more likely to be H3 bulbs? which is usually a fairly common bulb for front fogs

I hadn't heard of them before but it seems like a H3C is a HID 'version' which fits in the same place as a H3

If you've got the units in front of you, should be pretty easy to work out what bulb they take :)

Parts for sale / FC TII emissions stuff £20
« on: September 09, 2016, 12:17:36 PM »
Got some emissions bits and bobs that I've taken off my S5 Turbo II due to getting a decat exhaust.

Air pump and bracket, ACV, top bit of the split air pipe, AWS solenoid, couple of vacuum solenoids. All were working fine on the car as far as I know, only taken them off as they're not needed

Anyone willing to give me £20 for the lot? Might even take offers as I don't want to throw them away but equally I can't really be bothered with ebay  ;D

Collection from Coventry

Wanted Items / FC PCV valve
« on: September 05, 2016, 10:44:52 PM »
As per title, I'm after a standard PCV valve for my FC as I managed to snap a couple of the nipples off it while renewing vac lines

I could mod something else to fit or buy a brand new one, but if anyone has a cheap, used one kicking about it would make my job much easier!

Thanks :)
