I'll echo Jon's comments. I was blown away by the excellent condition of the FB. Interior was like new. Really happy it made the round trip to Poole.

Thanks guys. I am over the moon that she drove the 490 mile round trip - Colchester, Castle Combe, Poole, Colchester - without ANY issues. The car gave me no concerns whatsoever; no leaks, no strange noises, no stalling, engine and transmission behaved impeccably. I did stick to A and B roads, but took the chance to do some full throttle spurts on dual carriageways. Very impressed how she pulls when the secondaries engage, and a great soundtrack to go with it  :). Surprisingly comfortable as a long distance cruiser (if a little noisy), given her age - I didn't have a problem driving with just a single comfort break on each leg of the journey.

Gwyn and I stopped at a Sainsbury's car park on the way home from Poole yesterday and when we came back to the car we found a paramedic vehicle stopped nearby and the driver looking at KIMI 2. He recognised it as the model he used to watch in the BTCC series back in the 80's and we had a great chat about RX-7's. He was delighted to have seen one after all these years!

I have to thank Ian Mothersole for helping me out with storing the car in the early days and assisting to check and fix the car ready for the MOT. TBH, I expected some niggles on this long journey, given she has sat for over 12 years in a garage going nowhere. A real testament to Mazda's engineers who designed the car for me to simply drive a 33 years old car like any daily after sitting for so long.

Next event is likely to be a local "Japanese Car and Bike Show" at Maldon in Essex next month. This is a new event in the area, and only about 20 minutes from my home. Time to do a little more cosmetic fettling before that show  ;)

Here she was at Japday last weekend;

See I told you to have faith as it's a spring chicken compared to the RX-4 ;)

Really pleased you enjoyed the trip without a hitch (literally ) :D

Not posted much recently as nothing much happening. KIMI 2 gets some regular exercise around the local roads and has done a trip down to Dorset and back recently (400+ miles). All running well, but she does need some rust bubbles in the paintwork attended too over the winter months. I'm summoning up the courage to have a go at some panel spraying for the first time using a proper gun. Only ever used rattle cans in the past!

More importantly though...

KIMI 2 is in for her MOT test today  :-\

I've also asked for the garage to remove the ss exhaust manifold to do some welding, as the rear flange weld has given way around the entire circumference and she been blowing a bit.

I'm trying a different garage to the one I've used for the past 6 years, as this one is walking distance from my home and the original one has had a lot of personnel changes. I'm hopeful after some long chats to one of the experienced mechanics there and one of the family owners of the business.

Fingers firmly crossed as I've not had a good look up underneath KIMI 2 this year  :-[ :-[ and hoping the tin-worm hasn't got a firm hold anywhere!

Fingers crossed Malcolm. After all the work you have put in it would be good to see KIMI 2 given a clean bill of health.

 :whoo:  :1rij:

MOT passed with no advisories! Wow, I was hoping for that result, but wasn't necessarily expecting it.

The mechanic was very complimentary about how clean it was under the bonnet  :) Even after all these years, the exhaust manifold apparently come off without a fight for the welding work on the flange.

Needed to move KIMI 2 into the garage from the driveway today, so decided to go for a little run around the local roads. She purred along and the trip (to no-where in particular) got longer as I was enjoying it so much  :13:

Gratuitous pic, taken at the Boxted WW2 airfield memorial.
