KIMI 2 - Series 2 FB
« on: May 10, 2015, 12:28:29 AM »
I couldn't resist the opportunity to pick up a another Series 2 FB that desperately needed a new home. She's the same colour as my current KIMI and the reg plate is very similar. Only 40,500 miles on the clock, but some rust issues to sort. I hope she will be restorable and I end up with a pair of near identical FB's  :)

Pic of her after being winched onto the transporter I hired today to bring her down to Essex from Leicester;

and a pic from a better angle;

Thanks guys. I know the previous owner has had some welding done on "usual weak spot"; the passenger side lower-rear suspension mount area. He loved the car, so has tried to take good care and has liberally greased the underneath..... I'm away for 2 weeks now, so won't get a chance to do a thorough inspection for a while. First action will be to check/change fluids, ignition components, put in some fresh fuel and fire the engine up to temp.

The clutch slave has failed - familiar territory as that happened to KIMI and was a easy fix.

I sincerely hope she is salvageable as a runner, but I paid (probably less than) scrap value, so she's be good for spare parts if the tin-worm turns out to be too extensive. One good items I spotted - she has a quality looking stainless steel exhaust fitted, which cost over £1000 when fitted....

 :) It started with the RPM (Rotary Protection Mob) with KIMI 1. Ian Mothersole from the RX8OC,who lives near to me, has kindly agreed to store the new acquisition. We're going to have a look at it together to try and bring her back on the road. In the meantime, here's an interior shot - the carpet, seats, doorcards and trim are in amazing condition!

And the mileage  :) :);

Bonus too - I've got a few bits of rotary related "paper" that came with the car, including an original "Mazda R100 Coupe Workshop Manual" in very good condition and a lot of historic "Mazda RX-7 Owners Club" bits and pieces, including a bunch of their magazines from 2002-3. I've yet to sort through exactly what is there.

Looking over this it is hard to believe it is 32 years old. The interior is absolutely spotless!
Yes there is some rust on the outside, but I have seen far worse on much newer cars - I think this is a real testament to the previous owner.
Looking forward to getting stuck into this in a couple of weeks :)

Lovely, I think I may still have a brand new master and slave clutch cylinder somewhere in a cupboard for a S3 (plus a new waterpump too !)

^^ Hi Shaun, if you have any FB spare parts just PM me what you have as, if they fit an S2, I'm likely to be interested!

I can't believe my forward planning - when KIMI 1 had a clutch slave cylinder failure I ordered TWO from Rockauto, as they were so cheap wrt the shipping. I've just checked and found the spare one on my "FB" parts shelf in the garage. However, I didn't have the foresight to order 2 clutch master cylinders, which may also need changing. The rust in the bore and on the piston of the original one in KIMI 1 was gruesome  :(

Will have a rummage. Only reason I have 2 is Rock Auto sent me the wrong end and then I had to pay the postage to get the right one !
